Analogue Tape Machines

Picture of Ampex ATR100 analogue tape recorder

Alchemy has a selection of well maintained analogue tape replay and record machines;

The Ampex ATR100 is a design classic and regarded by many as the best sounding tape machine ever made, notable for its punch, warmth and deep bass. It is often first choice for replaying older recordings that lack energy, and also for bouncing newer digital recordings through in order to add glue and depth to an otherwise sterile mixdown.

If you wish to try bouncing to analogue tape please discuss this in advance with your engineer.

The Ampex ATR100 has both 1/4" and 1/2" headblocks with record and replay heads.

The Studer A - 820 1/4 " has an open and clean tonality with an extremely smooth tape transit path, so is ideal for replaying older, fragile masters.

It is regularly used for Remastering at Alchemy.

The Studer A - 80 has a preview head and tape path for Pure Analogue Vinyl Mastering, along with ultra low noise custom Decca style replay amps. It has both 1/4" and 1/2 " headblocks.
