Phil Kinrade
Phil started work as a runner for Dick James Music from where he moved into the then massive tape library before working in the recording studios. From this point, along with Murray Harris & Roger Quested a Edit/Duplication room was set up. ‘If memory serves me right we had a number of studer analogue tape machines and about 10 cassette decks. The first job we took on was 300 cassettes of a band called Ministry. This came from then A&R man Pete Winkleman, now owner of the MK Dons football club’. ‘I still remember our then receptionist Jenny crying at putting 300 cassette inlays through a golfball typewriter’.
From this humble start a new company ‘Sound Basement’ was set up. It was during this time that Phil met up with Barry who was then at Trident. ‘We’d churn out CD masters and then pass it over to Barry for the vinyl’. In this period we were working on the likes of REM, The Specials, Spandau Ballet, Blondie, Tom Petty, The Waterboys, Tiffany, Nik Kershaw and on and on and on and on……
In 1990 Phil moved over to Chop Em Out were he remained until the time of the Sanctuary buy out. At this stage in 2000, Phil joined up with Barry & Rowan at Alchemy where he has been ever since.
